The Fading Memory of Light is a multi-channel installation exploring temporal entropy by documenting the decay of analogue photographic negatives exposed to sea salt. The residency period will focus on field recording coastal soundscapes to integrate into the final piece. How does a fixed visual memory respond to physical erosion? How can coastal sound data be translated into a structural element of visual decay? The project aims to contribute to ongoing dialogues concerning climate change and archival instability. Methodology: Weeks 1-2 will involve daily field trips to capture visual documentation (photographs) and sonic mapping (hydrophones/field recorders) of the tidal zones. Weeks 3-4 will be dedicated to processing the images in the darkroom, focusing on intentional degradation, and composing the spatial soundscape. Required Space & Equipment: Darkroom access for analogue processing, a dry studio space (200 sq ft minimum), and access to a power supply for sound equipment. Engagement Plan: I will host one open studio session and a public lecture detailing the chemistry of analogue decay and climate change impacts on visual arts archives. Final Deliverables: A completed 5-channel sound installation, a final series of 12 framed photographs, and a digital archive of the project's data.
