What is Body Fat Percentage?

Body fat percentage is the amount of fat tissue in your body as a proportion of your total body weight. It's a more accurate measure of fitness than weight or BMI alone because it distinguishes between fat mass and lean mass (muscle, bones, organs, etc.).

Your body requires a certain amount of essential fat for normal physiological functions. Beyond that, higher levels of body fat are associated with various health risks.

About the Calculation Methods

BMI Method: Uses basic height, weight, age, and gender to estimate body fat percentage. It's quick but less accurate than other methods.

Navy Method: Uses body circumference measurements along with height and weight. This method was developed by the US Navy and provides reasonably accurate results without specialized equipment.

Skinfold Method: Uses measurements of skinfold thickness at various body sites. This method can be very accurate when performed correctly but requires proper technique and calipers.
